Summer is coming to an end and it’s time to start thinking about fall. Transitioning is often a challenge, especially when you’re coming from carefree, sun-filled months. But just because it’s back to business doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate your carefree attitude into the next season. Transition periods mean finding the happy medium between summer dresses and fall jackets. Comfort is definitely carrying over into fall. Dries Van Noten illustrated this in his Fall 2010 collection. The key is long and liberated styles, from skirts to pants, transitioning into fall means still thinking flowy and cool. Your gorgeous fun skirt that was just a little too long and warm for the summer is a perfect fit in this shifting period. Once the cold air takes hold, follow in Michael Kors’ footsteps and add to your long look with a fabulous fitted blouse and coat; camel coats are extremely in for this coming fall. Remember: just because comfort is in does not mean fit it out. Show off your shape by belting loose tops or adding a fitted jacket.
Layering is also an important trend to stay on top of this fall. Prepare for the cooler temperatures by adding some woven sweaters to your wardrobe. The layered look is very cute, but must be done right. Don’t overwhelm your body with tons of fabric. You may just need one or two signature pieces. Christian Dior still takes into account a woman’s figure by layering a fitted top, vest and jacket, while Jill Stuart uses more fabrics and textures. Both are great looks, but take into account your own body type before adding unnecessary amounts of clothing to your look.
When it comes to accessories skin is in. Lizard, python, crocodile- all skins that are making statements in the fall. Real or not, animals are center stage in all forms of accessories. From rings, to purses, to boots, a touch of the wild will send your fall look from ordinary to chic and trendy. Examples are Tod’s Alligator tote and Amedeo by M+M Scognamiglio’s Python cuff. Don’t feel pressure to go for the real stuff! Fake is always fabulous and a great route if you are an animal lover.
Make your transition into fall a seamless and easy one. Don’t shy away from bold pieces and always wear what makes you feel utterly gorgeous. Happy shopping!
